Looking for a Mother’s Day Gift that includes a mathematical twist?

Here goes:

What’s a fancy mathematical term for a bubble/heart shape?

Upper elementary students will enjoy learning about the Cardioid, a mathematical shape that mimics its namesake ~ a heart. Scroll down to watch the animations showing how it is formed. Keep scrolling to see a cardioid in real life ~ it’s the reflection on the inside of a glass or cup.

Let students count the ways they love their mothers!

Nothing says “Thanks, Mom!” more than a numbered list of all the ways mothers make our lives better. Challenge your students to start with their age and count down listing all the things that their mother does for them. Enclose the list inside an “I count on you, Mom!” card and maternal cardioids will melt on cue!

Love can’t be measured, but these quick growing gifts can!

Grab some paper cups, cut up a few egg cartons, or fold origami boxes out of paper bags, recycling, or newsprint. Add soil and seeds. Sprinkle on some water and stand back.

For fast results plant radishes, marigolds, zinnias, beans, beets, chives, basil, or some of these 11 Fast Growing Herbs.   You might even consider sowing some microgreens!

Send your aromatic herb garden home in a decorated paper bag, along with a cute handmade measuring stick and a plant observation chart ~ a fun child/parent project. Add a card that says, “Mum, my love for you grows and grows,” and you’re all set.

Help your students make sense of fractions.

I started teaching in 1987, which means I’ve collected many tips and tricks along the way.  In this ebook, I share concepts, strategies, and classroom materials to help you make math sticky.

Along with this useful ebook, you will receive weekly emails from StickyMath@UnCommon-Core.com. I send information like: teacher tips, educational ideas, book reviews, curated lists, reviews of educational sites, and free first drafts of products that I’m creating for my TPT store. That way, you get helpful ideas and free stuff, while I get some feedback before I finalize products and put them up for sale.

I value your privacy. I will never sell your information. You may unsubscribe at any time.
