Art of Multiplication: Weaving

weaving multiplication free sample

It’s easy to conceptualize multiplication when looking at a woven multiplication fact!!  This FREE download (no sign up required) is just a sample. It shows what the entire activity is like. The complete set can be found in Weaving Multiplication Facts which is for sale (well, it will be as soon as I finish it!) on my Teachers Pay Teachers Store: UnCommon-core.com for $3.

You don’t have to wait! You can do this activity in class with fabric or ribbons, and fabric paint. Or, you can cut your own paper rectangles for your students to weave. Better yet, have your students choose a multiplication fact and create it by cutting the rectangles for each number from scratch. Hours of learning!

Creative Ideas for Extensions

Try some of the following for math experiences your students will always remember!

  • Cut GIANT rectangles from bulletin board paper; let the whole class help weave the largest multiplication fact possible!! Share photos!!
  • Let students help you make an entire set of woven multiplication facts. Laminate them and use them forever!
  • Create a display of woven facts for a bulletin board or the hallway.
  • Give each group of students a woven multiplication fact. Invite them to make a mini poster depicting the fact in a different format such as arrays, groups of items, repeated addition, or hops on a number line! Share!!
  • Create a set of transparent woven multiplication facts from colorful plastic! Post in your class windows!

Let me know how you used this activity in your math class!

I started teaching in 1987, which means I’ve collected many tips and tricks along the way.  In this ebook, I share concepts, strategies, and classroom materials to help you make math sticky.

Along with this useful ebook, you will receive weekly emails from StickyMath@UnCommon-Core.com. I send information like: teacher tips, educational ideas, book reviews, curated lists, reviews of educational sites, and free first drafts of products that I’m creating for my TPT store. That way, you get helpful ideas and free stuff, while I get some feedback before I finalize products and put them up for sale.
